Bande Utkala Janani Gets Place In Odia Syllabus, Rationalized Course For Classes 9 & 10

The Board of Secondary Education (BSE) in Odisha on Wednesday included Bande Utkala Janani in the syllabus of the First Language Odia (FLO) subject for classes 9 and 10.

In an official notification, the board has stated the iconic patriotic poem penned by illustrious writer Laxmikanta Mahapatra in 1912 will henceforth be a part of the Odia syllabus for standards 9 and 10.

In another major development, the BSE has announced that the reduced syllabus for classes 9 and 10 of the High School Certificate course adopted for the academic session 2020-2021 will continue for the present session 2021-2022.

This apart, the syllabi rationalized for 2nd and 3rd year of Madhyama and 10th standard of State Open School Certificate during the 2020-21 session will remain effective for the current academic session till 2022.

Like last year, syllabus for classes 9 and 10 in Odisha will be reduced by 30% this year due to the disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the availability of only online classes.

The syllabus for all the above courses mentioned by the board is available for everyone’s information on the official website www.bseodisha.ac.in

In a historic decision, the Odisha government finally accorded the state anthem status to Bande Utkala Janani on June 7, 2020, most surprisingly, after decades of inordinate delay despite pleas from several quarters.

After notifying it as the State anthem, the State government made it mandatory for Bande Utkala Janani to be sung at all government programs, assembly sessions, college and university cultural functions.

Whenever the anthem is sung or played, everyone will have to stand in attention except senior citizens, patients, infants, disabled and pregnant women.

Bande Utkala Janani is famed for inspiring a massive revolution that helped Odisha achieve the status of a separate province in 1936 and also propelled the fight against the British dominion to gather steam.
