KORAPUT: Three persons, including two security guards of the SLN Medical College and Hospital, were arrested for stealing cellphones of patients and their relatives and recovered 18 cellphones from their possession on Friday night.
According to police, the kingpin of the racket, Lali Khosla of Khitesh village, runs a fast food centre on the hospital premises and in association with two security guards they use to steal cellphones from patients admitted to the hospital and their attendants. The security guards during their working hours used to switch off the CCTV cameras of patients ward for a few minutes and at that time Khosla used to steal the mobile phones of patients, said Dhiren Pattnaik, inspector-in-charge of Koraput town police station.
He said after stealing the mobile phones, Khosla used to sell them at shops at a lower price and used to give some commission to the two security guards. Khosla was arrested by our team while selling four stolen mobile phones at a shop in the town, he added.
